How did you start your journey and begin with Maui Jim?
My journey with Maui Jim started in January of 2017 as an ‘Event Associate’ with the Corporate Gifts department. I had no prior knowledge of the optical industry before I started – as a matter of fact, I didn’t even own a pair of sunglasses! My introduction to Maui Jim could not have gone better; I was blown away by the camaraderie within the department, and the culture of the entire company. Since then, I have held positions in both the repairs department, and as a member of the Flying Jimmy team. I returned to Corporate Gifts as an Event Coordinator in November of 2017 and am looking forward to the adventures ahead!
What’s the most interesting place your travels have taken you?
The island country of Saint Maarten! Saint Maarten is part of the United Kingdom of the Netherlands and is a small country on the southern part of a Caribbean Island shared with Saint Martin. This island is famously known for Maho Beach, located at the base of the Princess Juliana Airport runway. Incoming planes literally fly a couple hundred feet above your head as they land on the runway. Aside from Maho Beach, Saint Maarten has a beautiful terrain of green hills and tropical forests. Saint Martin was devastated by Hurricane Irma – however, I hope to return to the island someday.
What’s the best thing about owning a pair of Maui Jim sunglasses?
The best thing about owning a pair of Maui Jim Sunglasses is the added value it brings to your everyday experience. It’s like walking around in silence, and then discovering headphones for the first time – you don’t realize what you’re missing out on until you try on a pair and experience the pleasure that comes with the enhanced optics. I prefer the bronze lens in glass – it gives everything a “Golden Hour” filter 😊
What’s something people don’t know about Maui Jim that they should know?
Maui Jim’s are literally healthy for you! They are actively protecting your eyes from the harmful UV rays that the sun gives off. Not only are they protecting your eyes, but the skin around them. Maui Jim’s slow the aging process of increased sun exposure. The more you protect your eyes with Maui Jim lenses = the less wrinkles you will have in the future.
What’s the best gift you’ve ever received (and why)?
Two answers: The rare gift of life, and the incredible fortune of having two awesome parents. I am grateful to be able to experience all the gifts of being alive. Including the often overlooked, most basic and obvious gifts such as: being healthy, having the ability to see color and hear sounds, to live in America, etc. Additionally, I have two amazing life coaches who continually guide me in the right direction and set positive examples.
If you were a pair of Maui Jim sunglasses, which style would you be (and why)?
If I were a pair of Maui Jim Sunglasses, I would be the Bronze Upcountry’s! Great for everyday wear, the Upcountry’s are a glass lens, providing the highest clarity possible. Although they are glass, they have a minimal frame, so they aren’t heavy on the face.
